The Ute Indians were the first to inhabit the area. Birds: Grebes, Pelicans, Cormorants, Herons, Vultures, Ibises, Swans, Geese, Ducks, Hawks, Kites, Eagles, Falcons, Gallinaceous Birds, Rails, Coots, Cranes, Plovers, Stilts, Avocets, Sandpipers, Phalaropes, Gulls, Terns, Doves, Owls, Goatsuckers, Hummingbirds, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Flycatchers, Larks, Swallows, Jays, Magpies, Crows, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Wrens, Dippers, Kinglets, Thrushes, Bluebirds, Mockingbirds, Thrashes, Pipites, Waxwings, Shrikes, Starlings, Vireos, Warblers, Tanagers, Grosbeaks, Buntings, Towhees, Sparrows, Blackbirds, Orioles, Finches.
