Due to the remoteness of the refuge, cell phone reception is sketchy and bringing extra water, food, and fuel is encouraged. Otter, beaver, black-tailed jackrabbits, osprey, Great Basin gopher snakes, songbirds, Woodhouse’s toad, waterfowl, deer, moose and elk inhabit the refuge and can be viewed along the 8 mile wildlife drive. Birds: Grebes, Loons, Pelicans, Cormorants, Herons, Bitterns, Ibises, Swans, Geese, Ducks, Vultures, Hawks, Eagles, Falcons, Rails, Coots, Cranes, Shorebirds, Gulls, Terns, Doves, Cuckoos, Owls, Goatsuckers, Swifts, Hummingbirds, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Flycatchers, Larks, Swallows, Jays, Magpies, Crows, Chickadees, Titmice, Bushtits, Nuthatches, Creepers, Wrens, Dippers, Ikinglets, Gnatcatchers, Mockingbirds, Thrashers, Thrushes, Pipits, Waxwings, Shrikes, Starlings, Vireos, Wood Warbler, Tanagers, Grosbeaks, Finches, Sparrows, Buntings, Blackbirds, Orioles, Finches.
