Details

National Bison Range was established in 1908 for the preservation of the American bison, and was designated as a refuge for native birds in 1921. Elk, white-tail and mule deer, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep and black bear are other large wildlife found on the Range. The range is open mid-May to late October and accepts Golden Passes and Federal Waterfowl Stamps.

Grebes, Cormorants, Herons, Bitterns, Geese, Swans, Ducks, Vultures, Hawks, Falcons, Grouse, Rails, Shorebirds, Gulls, Terns, Doves, Cuckoos, Owls, Nighthawks, Swifts, Hummingbirds, Kingfisher, Woodpeckers, Flycatchers, Larks, Swallows, Jays, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Creepers, Wrens, Dippers, Kinglets, Thrushes, Mockingbirds, Pipits, Waxwings, Shrikes, Starling, Vireo, Warblers, Tanagers, Buntings, Towhees, Sparrows, Blackbirds, Finches, Weaver Finches.
