Details

Aransas National Wildlife Refuge was originally established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937. It spans more than 115,000 acres including Blackjack Peninsula (Aransas proper), Matagorda Island, Myrtle Foester Whitmire, Tatton, and Lamar units. Aransas NWR is know for hosting the largest wild flock of endangered whooping cranes. Other wildlife include American alligator, javelina, roseate spoonbill, white-tailed deer, and armadillo.
