Details

The 8,672 acre Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for over 254 species of birds with native grasslands, croplands, marshes, ponds, timbered canyons and streams. Bats, reptiles, shrew, rabbits, coyote, fox, deer, and bighorn sheep are some of the inhabitants of this refuge. From Las Vegas, New Mexico, take exit 345 off I-25. Drive east on NM State Highway 104 for 1.5 miles. Turn south on NM State Highway 281. Drive approximately 4.5 miles to the refuge office.

Loons, Grebes, Pelicans, Cormorants, Bitterns, Herons, Egrets, Ibises, Storks, Ducks, Geese, Swans, Vultures, Kites, Eagles, Hawks, Falcons, Pheasants, Quail, Rails, Gallinules, Coots, Cranes, Plovers, Stilts, Avocets, Sandpipers, Phalaropes, Gulls, Terns, Skimmers, Pigeons, Doves, Cuckoos, Roadrunners, Anis, Barn Owls, Typical Owls, Goatsuckers, Swifts, Hummingbirds, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Tyrant Flycatchers, Larks, Swallows, Jays, Crows, Titmice, Bushtits, Nuthatches, Creepers, Wrens, Kinglets, Gnatcatchers, Thrushes, Mockingbirds, Thrashers, Pipits, Waxwings, Shrikes, Starlings, Vireos, Wood-Warblers, Tanagers, Cardinals, Grosbeaks, Buntings, Sparrows, Towhees, Blackbirds, Orioles, Finches, Goldfinches, Old World Sparrows.
