Details

Established in 1944, Mingo National Wildlife Refuge is a resting and wintering area for migratory waterfowl and other birds. The 21,676 acres include approximately 14,000 acres of bottomland hardwoods, 1,000 acres of upland hardwoods, 1,275 acres of cropland and moist soil units, 700 acres of grasslands, and 4,700 acres of marsh and water.

Loons, Grebes, Pelicans, Cormorants, Bitterns, Herons, Swans, Geese, Ducks, Vultures, Hawks, Eagles, Falcons, Gallinaceous, Rails, Cranes, Shorebirds, Gulls, Terns, Doves, Cuckoos, Owls, Goatsuckers, Swifts, Hummingbirds, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Flycatchers, Larks, Swallows, Jays, Crows, Chickadees, Nuthataches, Creepers, Wrens, Kinglets, Thrushes, Thrashers, Waxwings, Shrikes, Starlings, Vireos, Wood Warblers, Tanagers, Grosbeaks, Buntings, Towhees, Sparrows, Meadowlarks, Blackbirds, Orioles, Finches, Old World Sparrows.
